Sodium Methoxide
CAS No: 124-41-4
Molecular formula: CH3ONa
Alternative name: sodium methylate, sodium methanolate, methanol sodium derivative
Sodium methoxide is a powerful base that is used extensively as a base catalyst in the production of biodiesel. In this process, common vegetable oils, such as soybean oil, rapeseeds oil, etc, and animal fats, which are fatty acid triglycerides by chemical nature, are transesterified with alcohol, such as methanol, to produce fatty acid methyl esters (FAMES), which is commonly called Biodiesel. Sodium methoxide is the most widely used catalyst in the biodiesel production. Sodium methoxide solution in methanol is a pre-blended solution that is ready to use.
Our products are typically 10-30% cheaper than our competitors!

Sodium Methoxide Powder
Sodium methoxide is a white, amorphous powder that is easy to react with oxygen. It reacts violently with water to produce methanol and caustic sodium hydroxide. SM easily absorbs moisture at room temperature and decomposes in air above 126 oC.
